Tequila at Los Cabo-rita

Tequila at Los Cabo-rita

Did you know that February 22nd was National Margarita Day? While tequila, just like Caesar dressing was invented in Tijuana, Mexico, there is no better place to enjoy a margarita or any tequila than in Los Cabos.

Tequila is the oldest distilled spirit in North America and lays claims to being the healthiest spirit, without carbs or sugar, and has fewer calories than wine, beer, or cider.

It is purported to help lower blood sugar levels, reduce pain and inflammation, lower cholesterol, aid in weight loss, improve gastrointestinal health and improve blood flow. Studies of 100% agave tequila support the claims. Moderation is of course part of the healthy equation.

Begin with taste testing at any beach bar or go directly to The Tequila Museum. It is a mega store and historical study of the iconic elixir depicting the process of pina extraction from the blue agave plant, baking, steaming, grinding, fermenting, and distilling.

Two types of tequila

Taste the difference between silver, reposado, and anejo. Purchases are packed for safe transportation in checked luggage.

If your health definition includes abstaining from alcohol, Los Cabos’ mixologists lend their talents to creative mocktails as well.

Libations are of course prevalent at every golf course and Los Cabos currently has 18 gorgeous courses open for play with more on the way.

The first course was built in San Jose del Cabo as an added tourist attraction. Vidanta is a nine-hole layout between the Sierra de La Laguna mountains and the Sea of Cortez with spectacular views of both.

La Laguna Social Club serves as the 10th hole and clubhouse above the 9th green to celebrate the short but fun round. Vidanta is a low key, affordable walking course that historically set the stage for Los Cabos to become the premier golf destination in Latin America.

The Grand Mayan Resort sits next to the course on the Bandera Bay with a stunning ringed tunnel entry that announces a vacation transformation. Walk the white sand beach or enjoy the triple tier pool between swaying palms.

Los Cabos Golf

One of the newer, ritzier courses was designed in 2020 by Robert Trent Jones, Jr.

The links style Costa Palmas Golf Club sits on the East Cape, 45 minutes from Los Cabos International Airport. Access is exclusive for guests of the on-site Four Seasons Resort. Sprawling high above the Sea of Cortez, it too is walker friendly.

The diverse topography inspired RTJ II’s architecture covering six holes of “dunescape”, six holes of upland, and the final holes glimpsing the Marina. The triumphant finishing hole features a yacht cove in the background.

An additional short six-hole loop is available in between deep sea fishing and beach lounging. Putting practice takes new meaning on a 30,000 square foot Social Putting Green and Bouchie’s is ready with artisanal concoctions to sip and savor on the patio next to the Green.

Whether you fly in or float in, the open-air lobby of the Four Seasons Resort signals a luxurious arrival with a see-through view to the sea.

Four Seasons where you can drink tequila

Four Seasons boasts the most expansive swimmable beach in Los Cabos. Modern architecture and décor punctuate the exquisite beach and ocean front accommodations with private plunge pools. The sand is as golden as the lifestyle at Four Seasons from the one bedroom to the three-bedroom Presidential Villa. The Oasis Spa extends to a Sensorial Retreat and wet areas are complimentary for guests.

Boat from the marina to the nearby Cabo Pulmo National Marine Park. The UNESCO Marine World Heritage site has 695 species of aquatic plants and 891 species of fish. Dive or snorkel for your own unforgettable accounting.
