Last year some of the best golfers in the world visited Thorny Lea Golf Club in Brockton, MA. The golfers are members of the Symetra Tour, the developmental tour for women golf professionals and the gateway to the L.P.G.A. Golf Tour. It has been announced that

W.B. Mason will once again be one of the primary sponsors for the 2016 W.B. Mason Golf Championship.

The tournament will take place from May 23- 29 with 132 women golfers competing for the $125,000 purse with $18,750 going to the victor. The women will be playing in 22 tournaments this year but they are fighting for a lot more than a trophy. The top 10 on the final money list will be eligible to play on the L.P.G.A. tour for the fame and fortune that comes with playing on that tour.

The Symetra Tour is certainly the training ground for the superstars of tomorrow. In 2015, Vicky Hurst shot three rounds in the 60’s that enabled her to win the tournament and earn her card to get back on the L.P.G.A. Tour. Also, last year Rockland native Megan Khang received a sponsor exemption finishing 17th in the tournament. The experience Megan received helped her qualify at tour school and she is now a member of the L.P.G.A. tour where she finished 11th in her first tournament.

Inbee Park, Mo Martin and Lorena Ochoa, who won 27 tournaments on the L.P.G.A. tour, are all graduates of the Symetra Tour. Former Symetra players have accounted for 418 L.P.G.A. titles, so when you visit Thorny Lea this year you know you will be seeing future champions in the world of professional golf.

Thorny Lea is one of the oldest courses in the country with plenty of prime viewing spots for spectators. If you wish to volunteer for the tournament or need more information, go to the website at www.wbmasonchampionship.com.
